Dear fellow parents and swimming stakeholders
Our first National meet of the 2018-2019-swim season is scheduled for October 19-21, 2018 at Oshwal Academy in
Mombasa.
The IMC and CMC is committed to ensure effective and efficient management of our national competitions to
ensure that there is professionalism, integrity and a standard of competition management that guarantees all
swimmers that their best interests are paramount all our meets. In order to ensure all positions are covered on
deck, we require in excess of 50 technical officials, volunteers and other critical roles are covered. The meet will be
run as heats and finals and therefore for any particular day, we will require double the number of officials and
volunteers for both sessions.
While in the past, we have adopted a model of paid officials to staff our meets; this model makes it expensive and
ineffective, as each meet requires approximately Kes. 200,000.00 to pay officials’ allowances. For the most part,
this has meant that the Federation is running meets at a loss while any revenue generated from such events could
be put to good use in supporting various programs to benefit swimmers and the sport.
We are calling upon all clubs, members, parents and well wishers to support the event and all upcoming meets in
providing volunteers to staff meets in order to keep our costs low and manageable. In return, we undertake to
ensure that all officials on deck are well hydrated, nourished and duly appreciated for their support and
participation. Additionally, the IMC continues to remain transparent and accountable in providing financial reports
and keeping our records open for audit and review by all swimming stakeholders.
While changes are being implemented, we would hope that we can avoid the predicament of implementing a
penalty system to clubs and members but instead hope to promote a spirit of volunteerism. This is one of the
greatest gestures of supporting your swimmer and the sport and not to mention that you will occupy the best seat
in the house to watch your swimmer and grow your understanding of the sport and the FINA technical rules
governing the sport.
There are various roles to be filled and newbies/rookies are welcome. Officials briefing will happen before every
session to ensure that all officials on deck feel confident for whatever role they volunteer for.
